My personal experience as an engineer at Boeing is dealing with planes. There is a process for each plane and a lot of planning that occurs; the design, the controls, the technical and electronics aspects, and hundreds of other processes and layouts for the plane. From that point it is tasked out to the people who are going to do the work.

Essentially we are figuring out the end and working our way backwards. There is no way to build a plane by just winging it and figuring it out as you go, otherwise every plane would be different and millions of dollars would be spent on building a plane that may or may not even fly.

He Who Fails To Plan, Plans To Fail

In Network Marketing it works the same, the end is where you begin and then you work your way backwards. If you don’t know what you want to have at the end, how can you know where to begin?

Mark Yarnell is a Network Marketing legend. He’s laid it out pretty simple. If you want to make $100,000 per month in Network Marketing you need to be talking to 30 people per day.  He took his end goal and worked the steps backwards to what he needs to do TODAY.  Not what he needs to do next week or next month, what needs to be done TODAY.

For 6 years in MLM he struggled and failed. His best month was $160. In 2007 he was at the lowest point of his life. In 7 months he had made only $2000. He had a brand new baby and was near broke. Instead of backing off and going to find a job, he and his wife took all of their savings and invested it in their next business opportunity.

In their first 12 months they made over $2.2 million dollars in revenue. When you can’t fail, you find a way to succeed. They were at the point where they couldn’t afford to fail. Since then they have been helping others succeed through MLSP.

With MLSP their focus has always been on producing leaders.

What are the 5 common things they teach leaders to do?

1. Email auto-responder – Get your OWN auto-responder. Many company sites have an email auto-responder built into them, but you need to have your own. You need the freedom that comes with having your own auto-responder. Leaders do not rely on someone else’s system, website, or email. If a system goes down it could cost you thousands of dollars. If you don’t have your own system then you are relying on someone else to tell you what you can or cannot say or do with your list. You need to own it.

3. Social media presence – Social Media allows you to make friends with people you haven’t met in real life.

4. Valuable pre-sell or opt-in offer – You must have a way to capture leads.

5. Create original content – Make sure you’re consistent. Decide how often you want to do this and stick to it.

The problem with this is it is not EASY. Everyone can do these things, but it’s not easy and it’s not quick. The internet is killing most network marketers businesses. A lot of network marketers are coming online and they are getting overwhelmed by all of the information out there. (see last week’s lesson)

Only two things are needed to be successful; Leads and Profits. Wow, don’t you feel better already, only two things to be successful. Doesn’t that take a load off and what’s really cool is that there are only “4 Pillars” required to attain leads and profits.

Value

We get paid for bringing value to the marketplace. This is the foundation of your business.

Build your value, authentically. The first step is education. Devour everything you can, become a student. You already know a lot, you just need to own that. Understand what you bring to the table and apply what you learn.

Education + Experience = Value

Your value will sell your brand but it must be true to who you are. It can’t be faked. Your brand must instill trust, confidence, and authority with your presence online.

Exposure

Get your name out there; whatever it takes. Put up signs at busy intersections, put ads on your car, put an ad in the paper, and just talk to people. It takes time but eventually you will have people following you. There’s so many ways and people come up with new ones every day. So instead of asking how, instead ask: Which lead generation strategy should I focus on.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money. Make a decision and do it. Change your question and it changes your entire presence.

Relationships

People do business with people they know, like, and trust. Start building those relationships. Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Skype, etc. All of these sites allow you to build relationships with people online.

Return on Investment

We all want to be business owners, so be a business owner. How can you maximize the amount of money you’re bringing in for your efforts? If what you are doing isn’t bringing in maximum profits, then do something different. And if it isn’t making you money, Stop Doing It. If you only have one income stream to offer people you’re leaving thousands of dollars on the table. Make sure you have multiple ways of making money and if one dries up it won’t be such a big deal, like getting Google slapped. Just don’t try to start them all at the same time. Get one profitable, then start another, then another.

Ray is very adept at both. Choosing Ray as the first speaker was a great choice, one year ago he was sitting in the audience at the first No Excuses on his way out of financial devastation. Two years ago he was in personal bankruptcy and going through foreclosure. As he puts it he was in “a financial and mental coma”.

When you do call them make sure you qualify them. Make sure they’re actually open-minded enough to qualify for your time. Don’t ever chase, beg, or bug anyone. Even if you get them to join, they will not do what is needed to succeed.

Our job is really two things:

1. Present information.

2. Provide options.

We’ve all seen what’s happening in corporate America. People are working harder than they ever have to make less than they’ve ever made, and they don’t complain! They do it because their boss knows that waiting behind them are a hundred other people who would gladly take the position and work weekends as well. Presenting the information can be a little intimidating, especially when you’re contacting someone who you see as better off than you are. An easy way to do this is with a single sentence.

Would you be open to a side project that wouldn’t interfere with what you’re already doing?

If someone says “no”,,, who cares? Repeat that. WHO CARES?

There are a billion other people on this planet looking for what you have to offer. You just have to talk to them.

Sometimes you’ll get a question like: “What’s this all about?”

Just respond: “It’s about me interviewing you to see if you’re a fit for my team and my time.”

If they bring an attitude bring it right back. If they’re really interested they’ll let you know. They may not even be a fit for your team. In that case just tell them you don’t think this is right for them. Just like an employer knows there’s many more applicants waiting to fill a job position there are even more people out there that are looking to join an opportunity like yours.

I was one of the lucky few, already making over a quarter of a million dollars a year in a job that I loved. I wanted time freedom with my family. I passed on many network marketing opportunities because people only focused on money when talking to me. It wasn’t until someone cared enough to find out what was important to me that I finally listened. Everyone wants something different and until we listen we will never know what that something is. We will never find it in a capture page or funnel.

Everyone is so focused on what they want or what they think the prospect wants that we don’t really listen. Some people are interested in the money, some want freedom, some just want to have their own business, or it just might be wanting to feel on equal footing with other people. Maybe just learning to talk face to face or on the phone to someone is all someone desires. That’s it. Nothing more. To be able to look someone in the eye and have the confidence of knowing you can communicate your ideas, no matter if you’re speaking with a pauper or a millionaire.

In everything Ray spoke about this hit me the hardest: You have to structure what you want in order to get it. All of us have something in our lives that we want to change. We wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t. But just as some may have a plan for learning to speak with people and building their confidence, it is absolutely vital that you have a plan too.

Know what you want. Have a plan in place to get it, and follow the plan.

Being successful is going to conferences, being present for meetings. It is working your butt off to get what you want! Discipline trumps talent every single time. Your discipline will build your business. This isn’t about wishing and hoping, it’s about hustling.

Dream, and dream big. Tell everyone your dream, make it a part of your life. Never react if others can’t see your dream. They are not the ones that will help you attain that dream. Be with the people that support your dreams, for they are your true family.

Shoot for the stars. Set those goals then go out and work. And if it’s possible to inspire just one person to shoot for their dreams, to try doing what they never thought possible, then my life has not been in vain.

We all have stories. So many of which aren’t being told. Tell your story. Focus on helping others reach their goals and change their lives, and everything else will fall into place.
